Jeff Zatkoff Traded to Blue Jackets

The LA Kings traded Jeff Zatkoff to the Columbus Blue Jackets for future considerations. Zatkoff has been assigned to the Cleveland Monsters for the foreseeable future.

This explains the the John Ramage trade made earlier today as it cleared up contract space for the Jackets.

Zatkoff coming to the Jackets’ organization leads me to believe Brad Thiessen will be out a lot longer than originally thought. Having a veteran like Zatkoff on the bench or ice during games will allow Matiss Kivlenieks to have a mentor to help him grow as a goalie.

While some teams will roll with a third goaltender, it’s highly unlikely the Monsters will go that route. Ivan Kulbakov will likely be sent back to the Quad City Mallards of the ECHL.

Due to the fact the Kings and Reign are stacked with goalies, Zatkoff has been unable to play in any games this season. This move will be as good for him as it is for the Monsters.
