The Portland Winterhawks were eliminated from the WHL playoffs last week, losing to the Kootenay Ice in the Western league final. The Winterhawks were adopted by a handful of Blue Jacket fans, due to the fact the “Hawks were led by top prospect Ryan Johansen. Those fans became familiar with other Portland players, and couldn’t help but imagine the idea of one of Johansen’s draft-eligible teammates joining him in the organization.
We looked at one of those players– Sven Bartschi-last week. Rattie played opposite of Bartschi this past season on the team’s second line. While Bartschi is a gritty winger with offensive ability, Rattie is more of a pure offensive threat. He is a smaller player, but makes up for this with his speed and tenacity. He has a high offensive ceiling, and unlike a lot of players cut from a similar cloth, he is defensively responsible.
He is ranked in the 10-20 range, so from a Columbus perspective he would be a bit of a stretch if taken at the 8th overall spot where the Jackets currently sit. If the Jackets decide to trade down, Rattie would be available.

Shifty winger with top-six upside. A potential boom/bust prospect.
Why he’d be a good fit in Columbus:
The Jackets have a handful of offensive wingers in the pipeline, namely Nikita Filatov, Maksim Mayorov, and Tomas Kubalik. That said, Filatov is near the end of his leash in terms of proving to be a regular NHLer, Mayorov seems like ideal trade bait, and Kubalik plays more of a power forward style. Given this, Rattie would add a dose of pure offense to the system, and would become one of the team’s top prospects, giving insurance on the wing.
