2011 Draft Prospect Profile #9: Sven Bartschi

Position: Left Wing

Date of Birth: October 5, 1992
Place of Birth: Bern, Switzerland

Bartschi is a teammate of top Columbus prospect Ryan Johansen with the Portland Winterhawks. He led the WHL in rookie scoring this past season, and is currently playing in the WHL final against Kootenay. He’s a talented offensive player-a great passer with a nose for the net. He also has some grit to go along with his skill with the puck. He’s a bit undersized, but he’s stocky.

Scouting Report (NHL.com):

“Baertschi is a finesse player. He has very quick hands and is a deft puckhandler. His radar vision probably makes him the best in the WHL at distributing the puck.”

Why he’d be a good fit in Columbus:

We’re at the point in our profiles now where we are seeing players who will definitely be around when the Jackets pick at 8th overall. Bartschi makes sense for a couple of reasons- he and Johansen have obvious familiarity, and with Kristian Huselius and Nikita Filatov likely not being with the team in a few seasons some help on the wing is necessary. He reminds me of Matt Calvert, but with better hands.
