Shrapnel – 1/15 Edition

Well I’ll say this, it wasn’t as bad as I expected it to be. That sentence alone should enlighten you all to the faith I have in our defense. I just thought everyone looked sluggish, uninterested, and played with a “I’m just going to take it, but be gentle, please” attitude. I can only wish they don’t bring that attitude back home, otherwise I see lots and lots of boos in that Nat’ tomorrow night.

And away we go!

BlueJackets XTRA:

Five straight starts for Mathieu Garon means one thing to Steve Mason. Its the longest stretch Mase has gone without starting. Early indicators show that streak ends tomorrow night.

Aaron Portzline’s game recap. Dustin Byfuglien‘s slap shot was one of the hardest I think I’ve ever seen in a game. As soon as there was contact I knew it was going in the back of the net.

Puck-rakers:

Last night was the first time all year that the CBJ has been shut out. First time. Pretty impressive stuff all things considered.

NHL.com:

The league is donating $100,000 to the Haiti relief fund. This is a very kind gesture from the league to help those who really need it.

If you’re looking to help, here’s how.

Ducks forward Teemu Selanne will be out for 2-6 weeks after eating a puck on Wednesday night. The Fins are going to have a tough time at the Olympics now, because Selanne’s NHL and Olympic partner Saku Koivu went down with a lower-body injury last night. Selanne may miss significant time, perhaps the entire event, in Vancouver and Koivu’s status is unknown.

Yahoo! Sports:

Brodeur gets another shutout. Wait, its a different Brodeur. Mike, a “distant relative” of Martin posted his first career shutout last night against the Rangers. I wish I was a goalie…in that family. They seem to have the shutout perfected.

Ok I can’t take it. There is way too much Pittsburgh manlove in Puck Daddy’s Three Stars. I get it, they’re popular. Thanks.

Take a look at these stunning numbers. Three of the bottom 14 players in the +/- category are Blue Jackets. Yep, our kinda year.

Quote of the day:

“We were dying” – Jan Hejda

Hey Jan, in case you didn’t notice, you’ve been dying all season. Don’t make any excuses. Just go out there and start hitting people, hard.

Fight of the night:

This was probably the best fight of last night. Thats sad.
