Shrapnel – 1/14 Edition

I’ll keep this one brief. Tonight’s game isn’t going to be easy. Patrick Kane has promised that the ‘Hawks will go lights out tonight. Skating fast and hitting hard is on the menu. Jackets better bring it. Having Russ and Dorse in the line-up is a good sign in my book. Go Jackets!

And away we go!

BlueJackets XTRA:

Transcript from yesterday’s online chat with Tom Reed. There are some pretty good things discussed here. Did you know Nash’s longest goal drought was 11 games in his rookie season? He’ll tie that mark if he fails to score tonight. Could be a good thing for the CBJ and a bad thing for Chicago.

Probable line-ups for tonight:

CBJ

Chicago

This is a good one. Coach Hitchcock has taken it upon himself to change his approach to coaching the team, and not making the team adapt to him. This says a lot about a guy who has pretty much been through everything you can go through in hockey. He’s always had the “my way or the highway” mentality and it looks like things are a-changin’.

One thing is for sure, these guys will always stand up for each other

Derick Brassard has been in a slump lately, yes? To his credit he isn’t giving up, and its saying a lot about his character. His time will come. Now only if a certain youngster took the same approach as Brass, he’d still be in Columbus.

Puck-rakers:

Enough of the teasing. Kris Russell and Derek Dorsett aka “Scrappy Doo” (thanks joshjoshjosh, good stuff) will be in the lineup tonight. This is great news considering Patrick Kane says that he and the rest of the Blackhawks would like to “empty the tanks” before an 8-game road trip.

Side note: I don’t know about all of you, but when I go on road trips, I typically “fill the tank” before I go.

BlueJackets.com:

Brief look at a few of our prospects.

The CBJ is falling off last year’s pace. There’s still time to salvage this season but we need to start taking out the league’s elite.

Yahoo! Sports:

The Bulin Wall has fallen again. A back surgery, slated for today, is expected to keep him out about 12 weeks.

The Capitals rallied from a 4-1 deficit to beat the Panthers yesterday. Our friend Jason Chimera made his presence felt. Chimmer posted 1-1-2 and a +2 and 5 PIM for fighting (and beating) Panthers LW Greg Campbell. Since joining Washington, Chimmer is 2-3-5 with a +1 and 11 PIM.

Quote of the day:“If things aren’t working, don’t expect the 20 players to change — change the one. You embrace the change. You are the one person to make the adjustment.”

– Wilf Brooks, Ken Hitchcock’s former boss at a sporting goods store
