Recapping the Blue Jackets’ 2020 NHL Draft

The NHL Draft is in the books and the Blue Jackets had an eventful couple of days!

Things got started before the draft on Tuesday afternoon when the Jackets swapped RFA Josh Anderson for Max Domi and a pick. On Wednesday, the Blue Jackets and Domi agreed to a two-year contract worth $10.6 million, an AAV of $5.3 million!

Also on Tuesday, in case you missed it, the Blue Jackets made their first selection, grabbing Yegor Chinakhov with the 21st pick.

On Wednesday the Blue Jackets selected defenseman Samuel Knazko with the third round, 78th pick (the pick acquired in the Anderson for Domi trade). Knazko is an 18-year-old, another lefty shot, and played for Turun Palloseura U-20 squad.

At No. 114 in the fourth round, Columbus took center Mikael Pyyhtiä. He’s an 18-year-old lefty, 5’11” and 180 pounds. He also spent time with Turun Palloseura U-20 squad.

With the 145th pick in the fifth round, Columbus took Ole Julian Bjørgvik-Holm, another defenseman, and again, another left-handed shot, and spent time in the OHL with the Mississauga Steelheads.

At No. 176 in the sixth round, Columbus took Samuel Johannesson, 5’11”, 176 pounds and a righty to switch things up! He was over in the SHL for Rögel BK.

Then it wouldn’t be a draft without another trade of picks, right?

Welcome to Columbus, guys!
