The Cleveland Monsters struck first with 12:14 left in the first period.
Terry Broadhurst passed the puck from the left faceoff dot to his brother Alex who was stationed between the two faceoff dots. He fired the puck through Jamie Phillips’ five-hole.
While the first period was a success for the Monsters, the second period was not. Three goals were scored by the Moose in a span of six minutes and three seconds.
Sami Niku tied things up 8:30 into the second period after he fired off a shot from between the faceoff dots through Joonas Korpisalo’s five-hole.
The Moose took the 2-1 lead 13:03 into the second period. Korpisalo backhanded the puck away from oncoming traffic. Francis Beauvillier picked it up and passed the puck to a wide open Darren Kramer who popped it into the net.
A minute and a half later, the Moose extended their lead to 3-1. Chase De Leo broke away from the pack and launched the puck through Korpisalo’s five-hole.
A little under seven minutes into the third period, the Monsters cut the Moose’s lead to one. Carter Camper scooped up a Zac Dalpe rebound and shot it past Jamie Phillips’ left skate.
Not long after pulling Korpisalo from net the Monsters let the Moose extend their lead to 4-2. The Monsters tried to clear the puck but it was intercepted before it crossed the blue line. This lead to Cam Maclise scoring on the empty net.

Quick Thoughts
- For the most part, the Monsters did an excellent job of keeping the crease clear. There were a few times when Korpisalo was accosted by the Moose. /
“We only gave up 20 shots against the best team in the league. That’s a start right there. That’s a positive for us. A lot of their shots didn’t come from scoring areas.” – Head Coach John Madden
- Two of the three goals Korpisalo allowed went through his five-hole. Tonight, his arm movements were swift. While his leg movements were not.
- There has been an interesting trend with the defense as of late. They hang out near the opponent’s crease a lot. When the other team gets a breakaway the defense must rush to chase them down. Between playing like this and being down a defender, they quickly tired.
- Ultimately, minor mistakes and basic breakdowns are hurting the Monsters. If they can tighten things up, the rest of the season will go smoothly.
- Joe Pendenza was back in action for the first time since December 29th. He wasn’t as speedy as normal but this was his first week skating with the team. /
“Joe wasn’t himself yet but it will take a few games. He was off for some time and for most of it he wasn’t skating. He practiced a full week with us this week. So, he’ll come along. He’ll get his legs under him again and he’ll have that little bit of competitiveness to him.” – Head Coach John Madden

There is a 3 pm start on Sunday. The first 2,500 kids will receive a Sully Toothbrush Holder and a Castaway Bay Kids Day Pass.
There will also be a postgame skate and full team autograph session.
Then they travel to Illinois to play the Rockford IceHogs and Chicago Wolves from the 13th-18th.
