Good News / Bad News: Weber Signed, Mayorov Recalled, Nash Done?

A few Friday Night tidbits for you as we prepare for tomorrow’s season finale.

First, the good news: The Blue Jackets have announced that they have signed 2007 second round pick Will Weber to a two year entry level deal after the big d-man finished his NCAA career at Miami of Ohio. A former CCHA all star and Best Defensive Defenseman award winner, my guess is that he’ll make his debut in Springfield to get himself used to the pro game, but don’t be surprised if we see him in Columbus sooner than later.

The other news is less positive – with Rick Nash continuing to deal with back issues after last night’s game, the team has recalled Maksim Mayorov from the Falcons as a precaution. I’d argue Mayorov has earned the chance for one last kick at the NHL can, but it’s disappointing to think that this means that Nash’s season could be over – and that he’s likely played his last game as a Blue Jacket.

I doubt this will severely impact his trade value – after all, he’ll have all summer to recover – but it denies the fans one last chance to say goodbye, something that I suspect many will regret.
