Blue Jackets Select Andrew Peeke with 34th Overall Pick in 2016 NHL Entry Draft

The Blue Jackets selected a big shutdown defenseman to get the second day of the draft underway.

Say this about the Blue Jackets- they live to make things interesting.

With the 34th pick, 4th in the second round, the Columbus Blue Jackets selected Andrew Peeke from USHL Green Bay.

The 6’3", 205 pound defenseman is a right handed puck mover who will hopefully shore up the blue line in the years to come.

This pick is a head scratcher, with a lot of talent available (and Peeke being ranked 76th on TSN's big board).

Peeke is committed to playing at Notre Dame this fall. He sees himself as a two way defenseman, but admits his primary focus is on the defensive side,

He earned a spot on the USHL All-Rookie team last year, and is a consistent passer in transition.

More to follow on this developing story.
