Trade Deadline Open Thread

The NHL Trade Deadline is Monday, February 26 at 3:00 p.m. EST.

On Sunday, the Blue Jackets made their first move by re-acquiring Mark Letestu,

Other moves involving former Blue Jackets include the Bruins trading for Rick Nash, and the Penguins making a three-way deal to add Derick Brassard.

Here is GM Jarmo Kekalainen discussing the Letestu trade and other deadline plans:

It appears that Jarmo will not move the 2018 first round pick, nor will he overpay for a rental. It’s possible he can make a big hockey trade, trading one long term piece for another, but my bet is the moves that are made will be more minor.

Possible Jackets on the trading block include upcoming unrestricted free agents Jack Johnson and Matt Calvert. Recall that Johnson’s trade request still stands. Another possibility is upcoming restricted free agent Boone Jenner. His recent 30 goal season and his years remaining of team control could make him an attractive trade piece.
