What They’re Saying from Blue Jackets Media Day
Artemi Panarin and Sergei Bobrovsky, among other players, face the Columbus media for the first time with training camp right round the corner.
It’s media day for the Columbus Blue Jackets, usually a day of trivial how-do-you-dos, it’s-great-to-be-backs and whatnot, but this year there’s a special interest in what several players have to say.
Or, as we’ll come to find out, don’t have to say.
And while The Cannon isn’t present for media day festivities, some of the best vets from the beat are, and if you’re worried you’ll miss anything, fear not, for our live blog will cover just about everything that happens today.
Artemi Panarin

Panarin also says he is holding true to the Sept 13 deadline for contract discussions. “The focus is on hockey” #CBJ

#CBJ Artemi Panarin just spoke with the media, said he’s keeping all of his options open as unrestricted free agency looms after this season. The overarching message: “Nothing has changed.”

Sergei Bobrovsky
Bobrovsky was asked directly if this is his last season in Columbus.
— Brian Hedger (@JacketsInsider) September 13, 2018
"We'll see."
Said he's told management his plans for the future, doesn't want to talk about his contract situation after today ... with media or management.#CBJ
Asked Bobrovsky if the way this season plays out with #CBJ could change his future plans.
— Brian Hedger (@JacketsInsider) September 13, 2018
"Not really."
#CBJ Sergei Bobrovsky strikes a far different tone than Artemi Panarin, said management knows his plans beyond this season.
— Aaron Portzline (@Aportzline) September 13, 2018
#CBJ Bobrovsky: "After the last season, I told the situation to the management of the Blue Jackets, so they know everything. They know my plans for the season. They know my plans for the future. They know everything.”
— Aaron Portzline (@Aportzline) September 13, 2018
Asked what those plans are, Bobrovsky: “You have to ask them."
Zach Werenski
#CBJ Zach Werenski (shoulder) will not play in early exhibition games, may not play in exhibition games at all. He’ll be held out of contact drills in the early part of camp, too.

Werenski, who had surgery to repair a torn labrum, said he’s “pretty close” to being 100 percent.
After he suffered the injury early last season, #CBJ D Zach Werenski wore a brace that wrapped around his torso and connected to his left arm, restricting his range of motion to prevent further tears of the labrum.

Somehow he scored 16 goals.
Zach Werenski couldn’t run as he recovered from shoulder surgery (biked all summer) so he’s not going to have to do Torts’ infamous 2 mile run today….instead he has to do a bike test - 12 minutes at 475 watts on a wind bike. Woof. #CBJ

As more players speak, we’ll update this story.
