Shrapnel – 6/7/2011

Game three started with Aaron Rome delivering an illegal hit to Nathan Horton, but it ended with the Bruins roaring back into the series with an 8-1 asskicking.

Martini Hockey has some good thoughts on the hit itself, and the likely consequences (or lack thereof) for Rome, but the larger picture has to be how the Bruins responded afterwards, running Vancouver furiously around the rink and frustrating Roberto Luongo (though I think we have to admit tonight was not so much a bad game by Bobby Lou as a bad game by the guys in front of him – the Bruins were served up endless opportunities), and Tim Thomas wasn’t letting anything past him.

Game 4 should be interesting, to say the least. The real question is, can the Bruins keep up this momentum (possible, but difficult), and how will the Canucks answer back after getting embarrassed?

In Jackets news, the Dispatch has more details on the hiring of new goalie coach Ian Clark, while Michael Arace argues that the Jackets need to make a big splash at the Draft. Oh, and some more catty comments about Arniel being hired instead of Kevin Dineen. Because that dead horse might have spontaneously re-animated if the Dispatch hadn’t beat on it some more.

In a brief look around the interwebs, the Winnipeg ________ continue working on gearing up, and many expect that after their GM vacancy is officially filled, former Jackets coach Claude Noel may be their next head coach, replacing Craig Ramsey.

Speaking of the _____, Tapeleg makes a good breakdown of why they really ought to stay the Jets, and discusses some of his jersey collection in the process!

Ryan Classic is working on reviving his blog from the grave, and gave us 10 observations on the finals going into Game 3. #1 is pretty hilarious in hindsight….

Lighthouse Hockey is doing an “Intro to Hockey Stats” series. Today? How to evaluate teammates.

Are the Flyers in trouble when it comes to the NHL contract limit? Yep. Oh, and don’t expect much help from their drafting.

Goalie Jason LaBarbera re-upped for two more years in the Desert. A sign of faith on one side, a sign of doubt about Ilya Bryzgalov on the other?

Finally, a look at the aftermath of the folding of the Lewiston MAINEiacs by Puck Worlds.
