Roster Moves: Dekanich Starts Conditioning Stint, Atkinson Sent Down

Some good news, finally.

Goaltender Mark Dekanich has been activated from injured reserve, and was sent to Springfield to begin a conditioning stint. Barring any setbacks, he’ll swap places with Allen York once he reaches game shape. Having Dex in Columbus pushing starter Steve Mason will be beneficial to both players, and steady play from the two will lead to a more confident team in front of the them.

Additionally, winger Cam Atkinson was sent to Springfield. With the acquisition of Mark Letestu and the impending return of Jared Boll and perhaps Jeff Carter, a spot needed to be opened up. Atkinson is still a rookie- he’ll receive a boatload of icetime in Springfield, where he can continue to develop.

Once Carter returns, and Dex completes his rehab stint, the team will be near-healthy. Curtis Sanford will undoubtedly be sent to Springfield once he’s healthy, leaving only Radek Martinek and Kristian Huselius on injured reserve. The loss of Martinek has been offset by the relatively strong play of John Moore, while the return of Huselius will amount to being an early-deadline deal.

Baby steps…
