Thirty-three seconds into the game, TJ Tynan turned the puck over in the defensive zone. Gabriel Bourque used this to his advantage and scored on Anton Forsberg to put the Rampage on the board first.
Three minutes and 33 seconds into the second period, Troy Bourke scored off of a feed from Reid Petryk to extend the Rampage’s lead to two.
Almost halfway through the third period Shawn Ouelette-St. Amant fired a shot from the high slot through traffic to give the Rampage their third goal of the night.
Not even a minute later, Chris Bigras extended the Rampage’s lead to four after firing a shot from the left faceoff dot.

Quick Thoughts
- There were a lot of defensive zone turnovers and flubs during the first half of the first period. The Monsters rectified this as the game went on.
- The Monsters have no problems once they enter their zone on the power play. However, getting into their zone on the power play is a bit of a rough go.
- Four penalties were assessed to the Monsters during the second period. The Monsters were able to successfully kill all four, including 30 seconds of a two-man disadvantage. They proved why they have one of the best pk units in the league. Unfortunately, the Monsters also proved they have to play a much cleaner game. Three of those four penalties were avoidable. The most egregious being a “too many men on the ice” penalty. During a line change, Daniel Zaar decided to take a whack at the puck traveling across the ice. Things like this don’t always seem like a big deal but it led to a 30 second two-man disadvantage for the Monsters. If the Monsters didn’t have a top-notch penalty kill unit, things could have turned out much differently.
- It blows my mind when the Monsters can take down the 1st and 2nd team in the division but can’t hang with the last-place team in the conference. In general, they have a problem beating teams struggling in the league. Luckily, the bulk of the Monsters schedule for the rest of the season is filled with matchups against the top teams in the league. /
