Rangers’ Boogaard Passes Away at 28

I’m sad to mention the passing of New York Rangers enforcer, Derek Boogaard. Boogaard was found dead in his Minneapolis apartment on Friday night. He was 28 years old.

This was Boogaard’s first season with the Blueshirts. He had signed a four year contract with the club last summer. Allegedly, he was brought in to be reunited with former Wild teammate, Marian Gaborik to provide a bit of protection for the previous season’s Rangers leading scorer.

His only season on Broadway, was one where he was often injured. Shoulder woes and a concussion were where his season was ended.

The AP reports:

“The Star Tribune newspaper in Minneapolis first reported Boogaard was found dead in his home by members of his family. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s office in Minnesota confirmed those details and said an autopsy was pending.”

Sad news indeed, starting a weekend with the untimely passing of a 28 year old, seemingly with a whole lot of living left to do. RIP, Boogie.
