QuickCap #34: New Jersey Devils at Columbus Blue Jackets

The Columbus Blue Jackets hosted the New Jersey Devils tonight in the final game of their six game homestand. The Jackets looked to build a winning streak together before they head out on the road this weekend.

The Devils started MacKenzie Blackwood in net, his first NHL career start. For Columbus, Artemi Panarin made his return to the lineup as Lukas Sedlak was scratched.

Here’s what happened.

First Period

Nick Foligno opened the scoring at 4:17 on a slick feed from Pierre-Luc Dubois.

Sergei Bobrovsky made a slick save on a Miles Wood breakaway with 8:30 gone in the first period.

After one, the Jackets led 1-0 and led 16-5 in shots.

Second Period

Cam Atkinson scored his 20th on a penalty shot, since that’s a thing that happens apparently.

Taylor Hall brought New Jersey to 2-1 on a breakaway of his own with 9:21 remaining

After 40 minutes, the Jackets led 2-1.

Third Period

Despite lots of chances, neither team scored

Final

Columbus Blue Jackets 2 New Jersey Devils 1
