Order Window Closing – The Cannon’s official hockey jersey!

After being unceremoniously dumped by Vox in March, The Cannon is now well underway on its first season as an independent blog. Through this, we’ve been blown away by the support you guys have given us, from crushing our crowdfunding goals over the summer, to starting a fantasy hockey league with sixteen (!!) people, to continually commenting and sharing your thoughts despite three platform changes in six months. We can’t truly can’t thank all of you enough.

And now, we’re giving you guys a new way to support not only us, but all of the For Hockey Fans blog network. Introducing The Cannon’s official site jersey, designed by our own Burkus Circus, and produced by Maplewood hockey, available for preorder now!

Here’s Burkus’ design breakdown, in the style of obnoxiously over-important NHL design reveals:

Being a Jackets fan is hard. There’s no vision for the future. The team looks boring, plain, and unchanging. They’re stuck in the past and seem oblivious to the fact that they have a problem. And going beyond the bad jersey design, the team sucks too!

While we here at The Cannon can’t fix the on-ice issues, we can offer up a fresh, exciting take on a CBJ jersey. Like our new logo, The Cannon site jersey plays homage to the Blue Jackets brand, while also exploring new areas for a slick, modern aesthetic. The unique steel blue base provides a fantastic background for the design elements to play off of. The striping is a simple play on the Ohio flag, reflecting The Cannon’s 2023 rebrand, with the arms angled to resemble the chevrons of a military uniform. (Fun fact: this is actually not dissimilar from a prototype jersey from the team’s inaugural season.) The team’s traditional full-length, navy blue yokes have been cut off at the striping, an innovative design that’s never been done in the NHL. Collar laces and Columbus’ name and number font complete the uniform.

Maplewood hockey was founded in 2020 by Canadian designer Dallas Kirkpatrick, and offers a unique design-oriented perspective on hockey jersey manufacturing. I’ve personally used Maplewood before on several projects, and can vouch that they provide top-quality work. The Cannon jerseys will be from Maplewood’s Eco line; fully sublimated to provide the best possible value. It’s Fanatics-style comfort at Adidas-level quality for Ebay prices!

The Cannon site jerseys are available for preorder now through December 8th! Link to reserve yours can be found here. The total cost will be $90 American, including customization and shipping (or about $150 less than an Adidas jersey without shipping). Sizes from youth small through adult 3XL are available, as well as custom name and number options at no additional fee. There’s a $10 preorder charge; the remaining $80 will be charged on December 8th when we submit the order to Maplewood for production. Paid subscribers will receive a $5 discount using a unique promo code that has been emailed separately. Estimated delivery is in mid-January 2024.

Thanks again so much for your support! Go Jackets!
