Dallas Stars (1-5-1, 3 points, 6th Central, 14th West)

vs.

Columbus Blue Jackets (2-3-0, 4 points, 7th Metro, 14th East)

After a big win in Carolina – followed by another three day break – the Blue Jackets are back  home to start a stretch of four games in six days.

Player to Watch

Cam Atkinson

We had a discussion in the writers’ Slack channel yesterday where elpalito suggested that Cam has been a disappointment this year, and that we should expect more from him since he has been one of the loudest voices among the players all off-season. My position is that we know who Cam is as a player at this point and what he has been is sufficient. As for his start, I’m not worried because  he has always been a streaky player. A five game stretch where he is largely invisible is not unusual. When he gets hot, he gets REALLY hot. Expecting him to maintain that for all 82 games is unrealistic and unfair.

What do you all think?

Jackets Notes

Liam Foudy was officially activated off of the injured list, then loaned to his junior team, the London Knights of the OHL … Josh Anderson has resumed skating but is not yet practicing with the team … There’s a new addition to the Blue Jackets due to arrive in March, as Cam Atkinson announced that he and his wife, Natalie, are expecting their second child:

The Other Bench

The Stars got shutout by Buffalo in their last game, 4-0. It’s been that kind of season for them … Free agent signing Corey Perry is considered “day to day” and may make his Stars debut tonight. The team also called up Denis Gurianov from the AHL … RFA defenseman Julius Honka, who demanded a trade at the start of training camp, has signed with a club in Finland. He can opt out of that contract if he signs a deal with an NHL team by December 1.
