Player to Watch
Kent Johnson
KJ is back! After a lackluster start to the season, with just 3 points in his first 8 games, Johnson was demoted to Cleveland. There, he got the chance to play first line minutes AND got to play center. In 10 games, he scored 5 goals and 10 assists, with a +5 rating. He won’t be playing center here (yet) but should get more minutes on a line with Boone Jenner and Johnny Gaudreau. Let’s see if the confidence boost helps him out, and if he can play at a better pace than he did in the first month.
Jackets Notes
Unfortunately, Johnson’s call-up is due to another injury. Cole Sillinger suffered an undisclosed injury in Wednesday’s game against Montreal.
The Other Bench
The Senators got to play two games over in Stockholm, Sweden a couple of weeks ago. They beat the Red Wings in overtime and the Wild in a shootout. Since then, they lost to the Islanders and Panthers. They’ve played 3 games in the last 13 days, vs. 7 for the Blue Jackets … No matter who starts in net, it will be a former Blue Jacket. The Senators chose to rely on the 2016 Cleveland Monsters goalie tandem of Joonas Korpisalo and Anton Forsberg. It’s not going great!
