Commodore Clears Re-Entry Waivers

A few days after being placed on Waivers, the Blue Jackets gave Mike Commodore one more shot for an “easy out” by placing him on re-entry waivers, to see if a team might grab him at half price.

Today, Commodore learned that even at half price, no team was interested enough to bite.

I’m sure it’s a bit of a hit to the big d-man’s ego, but it leaves both sides with a few more options.

For his part, Commodore has said he was willing to go to Springfield, to do his part to help with the development of the younger defensemen, and that appears to be the option the team will pursue for now.

Scott Howson still has the trade option, though it’s clear now that if he made a deal, he would need to sweeten the pot to get a team to take Commodore’s contract, but it is also quite possible that this could play out with the team buying Commodore’s contract out during the offseason, at a cost of $1.2 million (and a $1.4 million cap hit) over the next four years.
