Monsters release 2020-21 schedule

After almost a year of anticipation, the Cleveland Monsters released their schedule for the 2020-21 season.

The Monsters will play a dramatically smaller number of games, 28, starting with an away game against the Rockford IceHogs on Friday, February 5th, 2021. Due to the State of Ohio approving an attendance variance request of 10%, fourteen Monsters games will take place at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in front of a little under 2,000 people.

Only four of the five teams in the Central Division (Grand Rapids, Texas, Rockford, and Chicago) will square up against the Monsters this season. There are no games slated against the Iowa Wild. However, the Monsters will be playing their rival, the Rochester Americans of the North Division, six times.

During a normal AHL season, teams would see an abundance of back-to-backs and a smattering of back-to-back-to-backs. This season the Monsters have a fair amount of back-to-backs with seven. Only one of them is a home and away series. There will be no three in three series.

As of right now, there will be no double headers featuring the Monsters and the Cleveland Cavaliers. They also do not play on the same weekend. I’m guessing this will continue once the NBA releases the last half of their schedule.
