After a what felt like the longest offseason ever, opening night is finally upon us. The Cleveland Monsters start the 2018-19 season as an Eastern Conference team playing against a Western Conference team, the Rockford IceHogs.

Last season, the IceHogs shocked everyone by sweeping their way to the Western Conference Finals. The Texas Stars were able to bounce the IceHogs from the playoffs but it took them six games to finish the job.

The Monsters didn’t have quite the same luck last season. They ended the season missing playoffs for the second year in a row.

Led by Head Coach John Madden, the Monsters look to bust into the 2019 Calder Cup playoffs like the Kool Aid Man busting through a brick wall. In the beginning, the Monsters will have to traverse some rocky terrain.

Kicking off the season against the IceHogs was already going to be a challenge. Then, Rockford procured two of the best of the best forwards from the 2017-18 Monsters squad, Terry Broadhurst and Jordan Schroeder. Hopefully, the Monsters will remember their weak spots and exploit them.

This weekend will be a great indicator of how the rest of the season will shake out.
