Biography

Birthdate: March 30, 2001
Birthplace: Cambridge, Ontario
Height: 6’0″
Weight: 179 lbs
Position: Goaltender
Catches: Left
Acquired: Signed by the Cleveland Monsters as an undrafted free agent in July 2021, then signed by the Blue Jackets to an entry level contract in February 2022.

2022-23 Season

Greaves entered his second season in the Columbus organization in fourth place on the depth chart. Due to injuries in Columbus, it was Greaves – rather than Daniil Tarasov – who started the majority of games for the Monsters. In 43 games, he had a 3.08 GAA, .899 save percentage, 2 shutouts, and a 19-16-5 record.

2023-24 Outlook

With the trade of Joonas Korpisalo, Greaves moves up to #3 on the depth chart, behind Elvis Merzlikins and Tarasov. Both have had injury issues, which should give Greaves more opportunities to play for the Jackets. At just 22 years old, Greaves is still young for his position. He is entering the final season of his ELC and will be a restricted free agent next summer.

Highlights

Greaves got to make his NHL debut in front of family and friends in Toronto in early April. Facing that lineup is not the easiest way to ease into the league, but Greaves more than held his own: he recorded 46 saves on 49 shots faced in a 4-2 Blue Jackets loss. It’s not normal for a losing goalie on the road team to have cause to celebrate, but this deserved it.
