Cannon Blasts : Adios, El Presidente

Happy Monday!!!

It’s time for your weekly dose of hockey and Ohio sports news. We have a bit to discuss. So, try to keep up.

On last week’s episode of “The Cannon Cast”, the boys discussed Alexander Wennberg’s incredible showing at Worlds, Sergei Bobrovsky’s condo listing, and if John Davidson was leaving or not. As we now know, John Davidson resigned from the Columbus Blue Jackets and is expected to join the New York Rangers.

You can listen to the episode here, iTunes, or Spotify.

Feel free to drop us any questions to answer on the pod.

On Wednesday, Elvis Merzlikins signed a one-year, one-way contract with the Jackets for the 2019-20 season. We are one step closer to hip checking, crease leaving, spectacular saving Elvis as the starter.

We continued our player reviews this past week.

Cleveland Monsters and Jackets fans had a chance to see what defender Adam Clendening brings to the table. One of the best and worst things about Clendening is his passion.

After major shoulder surgery, Zach Werenski still looked pretty good. We also discuss his upcoming contract status in our player review.

Despite having one foot out the door, Artemi Panarin continued to produce for the Jackets this season. It was a fun yet puke inducing season with the Breadman.

Alexander Wennberg…. Oh Alexander Wennberg. He struggled to score in the NHL this season. Yet, was able to hop off the plane and score four points in one game at Worlds. This kid is likely going to make us go bald from all the hair pulling and head scratching we do at The Cannon over his play.

For a sixth-round draft pick, Cam Atkinson looked pretty fantastic. Let’s be honest, even if Atkinson was a first-round draft pick, he still would have looked phenomenal.

The fine folks over at “Massive Report” break down what they learned in the Columbus Crew’s loss to the Minnesota United.

The Cincinnati Reds had quite the interesting series against the LA Dodgers. On Friday, the Dodgers shut the Reds out, 6-0.  Then Saturday, the Reds shut the Dodgers out, 4-0. There was no shut out on Sunday but the Reds didn’t fare so well losing 8-3.

On Sunday, the Biebs led the Cleveland Indians to sweet, sweet victory after striking out 15 Baltimore Orioles. It was the prettiest thing I’ve seen since the Jackets swept the Tampa Bay Lightning.

In the weird, twisted world of the NBA, the Cleveland Cavaliers are picking fifth in the 2019 draft. While, wine drunk LeBron James and Los Angeles Lakers are picking fourth.

The Cavs also hired a coach who hails from that team up North, John Beilein. Now, there will be two people from TTUN coaching our beloved Cleveland teams as Monsters Head Coach John Madden used to play for TTUN.

“Fear the Sword” wrote a nice piece about how “It’s Time for the Cavs to be Something Different”.

The Cincinnati Bengals and the NFL Foundation have teamed up to donate 10k to St. Bernard-Elmwood Place Jr/Sr High School. A great gesture by both organizations to keep the football program going at these two schools.

In sad news, Baker Mayfield of the Cleveland Browns has shaved his beard. He now looks like a high school quarterback.
