The Broadhurst brothers, Terry and Alex, have quite the hockey career. Both Chicago boys had the chance to spend most of their professional career playing for teams around their hometown. Now, they belong to Cleveland.

2008-09
Terry Broadhurst spent his last season in the USHL playing for the Sioux Falls Stampede. His 27 goals and 31 assists earned him the top spot on the team in scoring and goals.
Alex Broadhurst had a pretty decent year playing for Tier 1’s U16 Team Illinois. Over 31 games, Broadhurst the younger notched 26 points in the form of eight goals and 18 assists. This caught the eye of the Green Bay Gamblers (USHL) as he was drafted in the fifth round of the 2009 USHL Future Draft.
2009-10
Terry Broadhurst would kick off the 2009-10 season playing for the University of Nebraska-Omaha. He became the first UNO player to score a hattrick since March of 2007. It was against The Ohio State University. At the end of the season, Broadhurst the Elder was the only freshman to play in every game during the 2009-10 season. With 13 goals and 11 assists, he led all UNO freshman in scoring. He also led the team with seven power play goals and four game-winning goals. This standout play as a freshman earned Broadhurst All-CCHA Rookie Team honors.
The 2009-10 season was a successful one for Alex Broadhurst and the U18 Chicago Mission. He finished a Tier 1 Nation Champion and fourth on the team in scoring with 45 points (16g, 29a). In six games during the National Tournament, Broadhurst the younger tallied five goals and two assists.
The success continued as he won a silver medal with Team USA at the 2010 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament.
2010-11
Terry Broadhurst opened the 2010-11 season on a five-game point streak. Despite having an injury and playing only 30 games, he managed to tally 11 goals and 19 assists. At the end of the season, Broadhurst the elder was named to the All-WCHA Academic Team.
Alex Broadhurst played 55 games with the Green Bay Gamblers notching 13 goals, 20 assists, and four game-winners. The Gamblers made an incredible run in the Clark Cup playoffs before losing in the finals. Broadhurst the younger scored three goals and six assists in 11 playoff games.
The Chicago Blackhawks were impressed with his style of style of play. When the 2011 NHL Entry Draft rolled around, the hometown team drafted Alex.
2011-12
All of Terry Broadhurst’s hard work was rewarded at the beginning of the 2011-12 season when UNO named him Captain of the team. From there the season went off without a hitch for the elder Broadhurst who scored career highs in goals (16), assists (20), and points (36). He ended the season second on the team in scoring. As well as, led UNO with seven power play goals.
At the end of the season, the Chicago Blackhawks signed Broadhurst the elder to a two-way two-year contract. Upon being signed, the Hawks assigned him to the Rockford IceHogs. Over eight games he would tally two assists.
Alex Broadhurst led the 2011-12 Green Bay Gamblers in scoring with 73 points. Those 73 points also landed him third in the USHL for scoring. Broadhurst would end the regular season with an outstanding plus-32 rating.
The Gamblers would go deep in the Clark Cup playoffs winning it all. Over 12 games, Broadhurst scored 18 points spread evenly among goals and assists. He even scored three shorthanded goals in one game.
2012-13
Terry Broadhurst would spend his 2012-13 season split between the Toledo Walleye (ECHL) and Rockford IceHogs (AHL). Over 35 games with the Walleye, Broadhurst tallied 12 goals and 19 assists. While with the IceHogs, he notched 13 points over 31 games.
Instead of going off to college, Alex Broadhurst opted to play for the London Knights after being drafted in the second round of the 2012 OHL Priority Draft. He would become the third leading scorer on the team with 63 points (23g, 40a).
The Knights would make it to the Memorial Cup playoffs but would lose to the Portland Winterhawks (WHL) in the semifinals. In 21 playoff games, Broadhurst the younger notched 10 goals and 18 assists.
2013-14
In May of 2013, the Chicago Blackhawks signed Alex Broadhurst to a three-year entry-level deal. This meant the Broadhurst brothers were now on the same roster.
The brothers had near identical stats during the 2013-14 season. Terry Broadhurst tallied 16 goals and 28 assists in 73 games. While the younger Broadhurst notched 16 goals and 29 assists in 75 games.
At the end of the season, Alex was second on the team with assists and led all IceHogs rookies in points.
2014-15
At the end of the 2013-14 season, Terry Broadhurst would test the free agency waters. The Chicago Wolves would sign him to an AHL only one-year contract. While there, he would notch 26 points in the form of eight goals and 18 assists.
Alex Broadhurst stayed with the Rockford IceHogs. It took 16 games before he was able to light the lamp with a goal. As if starting out slow wasn’t hard enough, Broadhurst had to miss four months of play due to a broken arm. In the 29 regular season games, he was able to tally 14 points.
On June 30th, 2015 the Columbus Blue Jackets and Chicago Blackhawks stunned the hockey world with a seven-player trade. Broadhurst, the younger, was sent alongside Michael Paliotta and Brandon Saad to the Blue Jackets in exchange for Marko Dano, Jeremy Morin, Corey Tropp, Artem Anisimov, and a fourth-round draft pick in 2016.
2015-16
Terry Broadhurst would head overseas for the 2015-16 season playing for both Skelleftea AIK and Brynas IF Gavle of the Swedish Hockey League. He would score 14 points between the two teams.
Even though Alex Broadhurst missed 15 games in the middle of the season, he was among the team leaders in assists. In 60 regular season games, Broadhurst tallied 36 points in the form of 10 goals and 26 assists. He was also played a pivotal role in the Monsters’ historical Calder Cup win. In 17 postseason games, Broadhurst notched 12 points.
2016-17
Terry Broadhurst would move over to KooKoo Kouvola of Liiga for the 2016-17 season. He was second on KooKoo with 14goals and 36 points. As well as, led the team with 22 assists.
Alex Broadhurst and the Cleveland Monsters missed the playoffs by a tiebreaker at the end of the 2016-17 season. It was not the season anyone hoped the Monsters would have. A known leader on the ice, Broadhurst missed 14 games due to an injury and the team struggled a bit with out him. By the end of the season, he scored 25 points in the form of 11 goals and 14 assists.
2017-18
On October 30th, 2017 the Monsters signed Terry Broadhurst to a 35-game PTO. The Broadhurst brothers were reunited.
Immediately Coach John Madden took a liking to the elder Broadhurst.
“I think he’s smart. He understands what’s going on out there. He manages the puck well. I know he hasn’t been playing much hockey lately. For his first game and to play that well, I’m only thinking he can keep climbing up.”- Coach John Madden
By the looks on their faces when they hit the ice, it’s clear the Broadhurst brothers enjoy playing with one another. Who wouldn’t want to play alongside their best friend?
Coach Madden even took the extra step to put the Broadhurst brothers on the same line a few times. He jokingly claimed it’s because every time he would say “Broady, you’re up” they both hit the ice.
The brothers are trying to create some magical chemistry on the ice whether they are on the same line together or not.
