2018-19 Player Review: Adam McQuaid’s absence might’ve loomed larger than you would have thought

You might have glossed over the trade acquisition for Adam McQuaid when the Blue Jackets made that trade at the time. And honestly, next to getting Matt Duchene and Ryan Dzingel, McQuaid sure wasn’t the sexy name. But he was a guy that came in with a physical presence, could provide minutes defensively, and represented the lone Blue Jackets player with a Stanley Cup ring.

I said it at time, that the veteran presence could only help a team like Columbus.

Adam McQuaids’ Contract Status

McQuaid is a UFA and I expect he will be playing elsewhere next season.

High Point

In a critical game against the Hurricanes, McQuaid scored his lone goal with the Blue Jackets in a 3-0 win. I think that’s probably it. Oh, McQuaid tied his season-high of three shots in that game. That’s more than Wennberg all year, right?

There was this fight against Garnet Hathaway in Calgary, which McQuaid won.

Low Point

McQuaid lost out on the rest of the regular season and playoffs after taking a hit by Andrew Shaw in their game against the Canadiens in late March.

After the injuries that also kept Markus Nutivaara and Ryan Murray out, McQuaid could have found some extra ice time in the playoffs. It’s all hindsight now, and I don’t think the series outcome changes, but it would have been worth noting the physical edge he provides against his former Bruins’ mates.

How would you grade Adam McQuaid’s 2018-19 season?
