2016 NHL Draft Prospect Profile #9: Mikey McLeod

Hey, a center! We need those!

MIKEY MCLEOD

Position: Center

Current team: Mississauga Steelheads, Ontario Hockey League

Date of birth: February 3, 1998

Place of birth: Mississauga, Ontario, Canada

Height: 6’2"

Weight: 187 lbs

Shoots: Right

McLeod’s best quality is his playmaking ability. He is one of the better skaters in the draft, with puckhandling and control to match. He is also a proven faceoff man, counted on to win draws in both zones. A two way center, McLeod is built in the mold of fellow Canadian Jonathan Toews. A hard working center at both ends of the ice, McLeod represents a coveted prospect heading into the 2016 NHL Draft.

How does he fit in Columbus?

Columbus needs help down the middle. BADLY. Barring a win in the Auston Matthews Sweepstakes, that help will have to come elsewhere. McLeod could fit that mold. A speedy two way centerman who can win faceoffs would be a nice addition to Columbus. With the loss of Ryan Johansen, Columbus lacks a number one center prospect. Most scouts believe McLeod could one day fill that role.
