2013 Blue Jackets Training Camp: First Cuts, Final Roster
The Jackets made their first cuts of training camp this afternoon, revealing the roster that will open the season in Nashville.
With the start of the season two days away, the Jackets made their first cuts to their training camp roster.
Forward Boone Jenner was sent back to the Oshawa Generals of the Ontario Hockey League, where he is team captain and the leading scorer. Boone has taken a huge step offensively this season with the Gens, and it's a testament to his hot start to the season that he remains the leading scorer, even after missing time to take part in the 2013 World Juniors and attend Columbus camp.
Though his offense likely won't translate to the pros, he remains one of the top prospects in the Columbus system. He has third-line center and a letter written all over him, but it will be good for him to finish the year in junior. Oshawa isn't a powerhouse, but they are a very good team that could go far in the OHL playoffs. He'll start his pro career full-time next season.
Defenseman Tim Erixon was also cut, and he'll head back to the Springfield Falcons of the AHL. This move is a bit surprising given that Erixon was the highest scoring blueliner with Springfield prior to getting called up to training camp, scoring 24 points in 34 games. He'll likely be the first call up if/when injuries or poor play strike the Columbus blueline.
With these two cuts, the Columbus roster is set for the season opener on Saturday against Nashville. The team will go with fourteen forwards, seven defensemen and two goaltenders.
