Colton Sissons is one of those guys who is listed as a winger, but may be able to transition to the center position given time. He finished the year as Central Scouting’s 14th-ranked North American skater. He has shown the ability to score consistently, and has a good frame on which to add size. In addition, his leadership quotient is very high, as he was named Captain of his CHL top prospects game squad. That said, there are certainly some issues with his game, as well. The fact that he was a combined -20 in 62 games through the regular season and playoffs is definitely an eyebrow raiser. He will need to work on his defensive effort, as well as his ability/willingness to get teammates involved, especially if he were to move over to the center position.
Scouting Report:
With good size and a lethal shot, Sissons undoubtedly projects on the high end as a top-6 winger in the NHL. His game is not without question marks, though – as he currently has a team-worst -15 rating. Sissons could also benefit from using his teammates better as evidenced by his low assist totals, however has certainly shown a knack for being a hard worker on the ice. Sissons was recently named captain of his team for the upcoming CHL top prospects game, which proves his ability to lead by example on the ice.
Why he’d be a good fit in Columbus:
Well, he has the potential to score goals, which is something the Columbus offense could certainly use right now. However, that addition might come at some cost, considering Sissons isn’t known as the most responsible two-way guy. However, if the Jackets were pushing to go to a more risk-taking offensive style, Sissons could fit into the long-term top-six plans for such a system. As it is, he’ll need some seasoning before being counted on to contribute at the NHL level.
