Suggestion: Improve the fan experience by updating the arena’s music

On the September 3 Cannon Cast episode, some necessary upgrades to the fan experience were discussed. The theatrics of the games have started to stagnate, and I think a lot of this is due to the same musical elements at every single home game for the last several years.

The arena does a lot of things right — I will never, ever get sick of AC/DC’s “For Those About to Rock” followed by the ear-shattering cannon blast — but do we need to follow that up with “The Whip” by Locksley? I go from feeling like a super rock ’n’ roll badass to feeling like an extra in a Six Flags commercial.

I also love the Blue Jackets’ warm-up music — the songs are updated frequently and I’ve definitely stolen several songs from it for my own running playlist. So why has the in-game music remained frozen in time since the 2000s?

I think we can all agree that this is a period of significant change for the team — from the roster to the front office, there have been seismic shifts across the organization in the last three months. So, it feels like a good idea to strike while the iron is hot and change some other long-standing fixtures at the home games.

Okay… time to address the elephant in the room. I’m talking about the worst song in the history of the universe that we are forced to hear every single game. I am, of course, referring to the Pizza Song.

When that song starts playing, my fight-or-flight instincts kick in and I feel the need to abscond from the arena as quickly as possible. Not only because there’s a good chance I’ll be whacked in the head by a flying pizza box, but that song actually makes my eardrums bleed. I grit my teeth and bear it, even though that song still haunts my post-game nightmares.

This is a bit of an aside, but it feels like a good time to discuss the abomination that is Papa John’s Foligno Favorite. Never mind the weird commercial where Nick Foligno inexplicably plays every role, but Italian sausage, onion, banana pepper, pepperoni and cheese? Sounds like a bizarre mess, but maybe that’s just me.

Anyways, the arena needs a music overhaul — specifically a pizza-related content overhaul. What songs do you guys think would help boost the game experience? Sound off in the comments.
