Coming off of their first win of the season, the Jackets have another quality opponent coming to Nationwide Arena in the Detroit Red Wings. While the Jackets were able to improve both offensively and defensively, they will certainly continue working on applying offensive pressure consistently throughout the game.
The Red Wings made several moves over the offseason in hopes that they will be competing for a playoff spot. The biggest addition so far has been Alex DeBrincat, who has three goals and one assist in two games. Detroit’s first line has some firepower with DeBrincat and Lucas Raymond on Dyland Larkin’s wing. Their other additions include Daniel Sprong, JT Compher, and Shayne Gostisbehere.
Player to Watch
Kirill Marchenko
Marchenko has looked like a different player to start this season. He looks more confident than ever, has looked dangerous no matter who he’s played with, and hasn’t shied away from being physical. He already has three assists despite only having four for the entirety of last season. In addition, he’s boasting an expected goals for percentage of 68 at 5v5. He doesn’t have a goal yet, but it’s only a matter of time.
Jackets Notes
Eric Robinson cleared waivers on Sunday and has been assigned to the Monsters. $450,000 of his salary will count towards Columbus’ cap … Merzlikins exited Saturday’s game with a stomach bug. He didn’t practice on Sunday and his status for tonight is unknown … Pascal Vincent will be once again switching up the fourth line with Foudy and Olivier coming out and Bemstrom and Roslovic going in.
