American Hockey League cancels rest of 2019-20 season

Monday morning the American Hockey League announced the cancellation of the remainder of the 2019-2020 regular season and playoffs. League awards will be based upon rankings and statistics held by teams and players as of March 12th, 2020.

The Cleveland Monsters had seven games left before their season ended. Yesterday, in a press release, they put forth options for season ticket holders and fans who held tickets for the remaining games.

Cleveland Monsters fans holding tickets to any of the seven unplayed 2019-20 games are able to receive up to 110% credit toward their 2020-21 Monsters tickets, additional benefit options in the case of specific plan holders or a full refund. Monsters Hockey Club members, group clients and ticket holders are receiving direct communication with these aforementioned options. – Cleveland Monsters

Monsters fans may be disappointed at the seasons they have lost. Playoffs were out of reach  this year but, in true Cleveland fashion, there is always next year.

Unfortunately for the San Antonio Rampage, there will be no next year. After 17 years of being housed in Texas, the team will move to Henderson, Nevada.

This also should have been Dave Andrews’ last playoff as President and CEO of the AHL. Having to cancel his final season due to a pandemic was not the way the season should have ended for a man who provided positive growth for sport of hockey. Hopefully, when all of this is over, we can honor Dave Andrews with the farewell tour he deserves.
