Today in the “A”: Taylor #1?

NHL realignment talk aside, Monday was an active day also in the “A”.

Monday was quiet in Springfield. We are still awaiting further word on the condition of Manny Legace. Legace was run over by Portland’s Brock Trotter in Sunday afternoon’s game. Manny apparently suffered some kind of knee injury in the collision.

The Falcons will be trading their skates for some fashionable footwear with numerals on the backs this Wednesday evening.

Meanwhile, former Falcons netminder Danny Taylor, after being released by the Falcons from his PTO and signing a regular AHL contract clear across the continent with the Abbotsford Heat, gets today’s “Right Place, Right Time” award.

Abbotsford number one netminder, Leland Irving, got the call to Calgary after a Sunday night injury to Henrik Karlsson. Taylor in turn, may have ascended to number one status with the Heat. The other Heat netminder, Joni Ortio, has played to less than spectacular numbers. Joni is 0-2-0, with a 3.19 GAA and a .857 save percentage. The Heat, thanks largely to Irving, are tied for first in the AHL with 33 points.

Meanwhile, Keith Aucoin of the Hershey Bears was named AHL Player of the Week. Aucoin registered two goals and six assists in four games. He leads the AHL in scoring with 6 goals and 30 assists for 36 points in 23 games.

Martin St. Pierre of the Falcons is tied for 7th in AHL scoring with 5 goals and 19 assists for 24 points in 21 games.
