Today in the “A”: Quick Hits

Today in the A, some quick hits from around the American Hockey League as well as a couple inspired by the Twitterverse.

Bruins success helps Falcons-
In a new edition of Falcons Web TV, President and General Manager Bruce Landon brings up a point that the playoff success of the Boston Bruins will translate to success for the Springfield Falcons.

Worcester Sharks help American Red Cross
The Sharks leadership coordinated a fund raising event at the DCU Center in Worcester. Unfortunately, the event has come and gone. Too bad…one of the prizes was a Logan Couture game used and signed stick. In a bit of irony, the fund raiser for tornado victims was attended by players from Worcester’s minor league baseball team, the Tornadoes, complete with mascot, Twister.

Patrick Williams, @AHLReport, mentions another Winnipeg story. No, not the imminent arrival of a certain unnamed hockey club from south of the Mason-Dixon line, but detailing concerns of the Manitoba chapter of the Communist Party of Canada over possible public financing of True North’s acquisition interests.

Patrick also mentions something that is becoming more ho-hum in different areas of the country. This time, the city of Baltimore is exploring construction of a new 18,500 seat arena. Baltimore was an AHL home for many years, with the Clippers and then the Skipjacks. The building, in different incarnations as the Baltimore Civic Center, Baltimore Arena and now 1st Mariner Arena was past its prime on my last visit there, over 20 years ago.
