Today in the “A”: Playoff Push Continues

While the Springfield Falcons embarked on a day long journey to St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, the rest of the AHL had a busy Friday night as the teams in the Eastern Conference continue to jockey for the final playoff spots.

Friday’s Results:
Albany 2 at Adirondack 3
Syracuse 1 at Bridgeport 3
Manchester 1 at Connecticut 2 OT
Worcester 0 at Providence 3

The wins by Adirondack and Providence were of no help whatsoever to the Falcons’ cause. Manchester picked up one point for their overtime effort in Hartford, extending their lead over Springfield to five points with four games remaining. Further driving a wedge between the Falcons and their playoff hopes, the Providence Bruins leapfrogged the Falcons by virtue of another shutout by Michael Hutchinson.

Entering play on Saturday, the race for the playoffs looks like this:

7. Syracuse 78 points
8. Manchester 77
9. Portland 75
10. Adirondack 74
11. Providence 73
12. Springfield 72
13. Albany 71
14. Worcester 69

Saturday’s schedule:
Springfield at St. John’s
Adirondack at Albany
Providence at Bridgeport
Syracuse at Hershey
Worcester at Portland

Faceoff time for the Falcons is 6PM tonight. The Birds will finish up their road schedule with a matinee on Sunday afternoon at 2:30PM.
