Today in the “A”: Friday Previews

If it’s Friday, it must be time for another “three-in-three”. A mainstay of life in the “A”, the thought behind it is to afford more teams the opportunity to play weekend dates and minimize the midweek games that generally don’t draw as well.

“Three-in-three” is actually a misnomer. It’s more like three-in-48 hours or less, as the Sunday closer is usually an afternoon or early evening tilt. This week, the Falcons have what it possibly their biggest challenge of the season. They are in Norfolk, VA for games tonight and tomorrow against the AHL best, Admirals. The Admirals are a perfect 10-0-0 since their last loss, a Sunday defeat in Springfield on February 5th.

While the Falcons take to the ice in Norfolk at 7PM, here are the other games that the Falcons may be monitoring:

Bridgeport at Albany
The Sound Tigers are the third seed in the East, based on their leadership of the Northeast Division. Albany currently holds onto the eighth and final playoff spot, trailing Bridgeport by six points while holding a slim two point lead over the Falcons.

Connecticut at Portland
Portland’s season has been a roller coaster, in that one game they can beat anybody in the league and the next, would have difficulty with a mite squad. The Pirates are currently two points behind the Falcons, four out of the playoff picture. The Whale are currently sixth in the conference with 66 points. They suffered through a 10 game losing streak in January, so there are no gimme’s for Connecticut.

Adirondack at Providence
Three points behind the Falcons, Adirondack will be feeling the “must win” pressure in front of what should be a full house in Rhode Island. The Baby B’s are tied with Springfield at 58 points, two points behind Albany.

The Falcons game tonight in Norfolk is available on AHL Live as well as WHYN AM-560.
