Today in the “A”: Falcons Web TV

This weekend marked another edition of “Falcons Web TV”. The offseason videos are must see material for fans of the Springfield Falcons. The weekly format is hosted by Falcons’ Director of Media Relations, Damon Markiewicz. Alongside Damon is Falcons’ President and General Manager, Bruce Landon.

Among this week’s topics discussed were the birth of the Falcons. As we all get a little older, and hopefully a little wiser, to me it’s absolutely astonishing that the Falcons turned seventeen years old this past week! Briefly, the previous franchise which had dated back to 1936, had fallen on some hard times after two consecutive Calder Cup championships in 1990 and 1991. That franchise was sold and moved to Worcester, MA after the 1993-94 season. As a matter of record, that franchise continues to play today, now as the Peoria Rivermen. Faced with no pro hockey in Springfield, Landon and former teammate Wayne LaChance put together a group of local investors and were granted an expansion franchise in 1994.

Also talked about this week are some local promotional ideas and in an interesting turn from last week’s interview where there was discussion of the Falcons playing a regular season game at Nationwide, this week the talk turns to the Blue Jackets playing a pre-season game in Springfield.
