Today in the “A”: Falcons Roster Adjustments

There was more player movement at Falcons Central on Tuesday.

Early in the day, it was announced that Tom Mele and Matt Lombardi have been released from their training camp tryouts. Mele was in the process of adapting nicely, and it’s just a matter of time before he’s heard from again.

Those moves were balanced with two experienced players arriving on PTO’s.

Center Adam Mair, a veteran with over 600 games of NHL experience, along with another 140 in the “A”, has come to town. Last season, Mair played in 65 games for the New Jersey Devils, notching one goal and three assists.

Center Ryan Garlock joins Mair as another versatile man up front as the Falcons get ready for their season opener this Friday night in Manchester, NH.

Garlock, the second round pick of the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, has skated the past two seasons for the Hartford Wolfpack/Connecticut Whale of the AHL. Prior to that, he skated in 35 games in ’08-’09 as a member of the Syracuse Crunch.

Then, in the late afternoon, after clearing waivers, Ryan Russell was assigned to the Falcons. Russell is yet another center as the Falcons look to stabilize the middle of the ice.

Alexandre Giroux, though clearing waivers, may not be sent to the Falcons while lingering injuries to Derek MacKenzie and Matt Calvert continue to hamper last minute roster moves.

As things shake out over the first week or two of the season, expect continued movement between Columbus, Springfield and Chicago.
