Today in the “A”: Falcons Moves & Player of the Week

Monday saw two more additions to the Springfield Falcons roster.

The morning started with the assignment of Alexandre Giroux back to the Falcons. Giroux had played nine games for the Blue Jackets, and after a quick start with a goal in his first game, he was kept off the scoresheets in the next eight games. He was a scratch in Philadelphia last Saturday.

Brett Lebda signed a PTO with the Falcons.

I would like to think that there has to be a deeper reason to bring Lebda in, but if there is, I can’t grasp it. In the past few weeks, there have been other defensemen brought in on PTO’s. Ray Macias was here, played three games, scored three points and was a +3. Macias was released.

Darcy Campbell signed a PTO on October 25th. As close as he got to game action was a healthy scratch.

And so it is, Lebda a former Stanley Cup champion while with the Red Wings, joins a crowded Springfield blueline. It will be very interesting to see how he blends in with a capable defense in Springfield.

Player of the Week:
Dan Sexton of the Syracuse Crunch was named Player of the Week.

Sexton came into the weekend with four points in his first nine games this season. He then exploded for nine points in two games this past weekend.

The Crunch had a weekend home and home with the Rochester Americans. Saturday night in the ‘Cuse, Sexton chalked up a goal and 4 helpers in the 5-2 Crunch win. Sunday in Rochester, Sexton scored another goal and contributed three assists as the Crunch fell 6-5 in overtime.

Nine points out of ten goals – a performance worthy of the Player of the Week Award!
