The Dog Days Of Summer: Top 10 Games of 2010-2011

It’s August 1st. That means it’s hot, it’s sticky, and there’s still two months before the start of the NHL season. (But at least there’s only 12 days ’til CannonFest!)
Fortunately, thanks to the Blue Jackets putting up their highlight packages from last season, there’s a chance to get away and relive some of the best games from last season, in case you just can’t wait for your fix…

#10 – CBJ @ CHI, 2/18/11 – With Steve Mason ill, Derick Brassard Injured and Marc Methot scratched for John Moore late, the Jackets had a rough first period, but fought back to a 4-3 victory.

#9 – NSH @ CBJ, 11/22/10Fresh off their West Coast Sweep, the Jackets took on Nashville at home, the fourth game in five nights, and Steve Mason pitched a shutout.

#8CBJ @ PIT, 2/8/11 – After a humiliating loss to Pittsburgh at home earlier in the season, the Jackets went into the CONSOL energy center for a little payback.

#7CBJ @ SJS, 11/20/10 – The Jackets finished their first West Coast Swing of the season with a sweep of all three California teams, a Rick Nash hat trick, and a Mathieu Garon shutout.

#6 – DET @ CBJ, 1/14/11After a long losing streak, the Jackets responded to the fan “Money On The Board” campaign by beating Detroit in a shootout in front of a sellout crowd. Oh, and some guy named Grant Clitsome showed up for the first time and looked pretty OK.

#5 – NSH @ CBJ, 2/22/11 – In the midst of a dominant February, the Jackets met the Predators head on in an intense matchup that would explode after two periods of scoreless hockey into a 4-0 beatdown of the boys from the music city.

#4 – CBJ @ DET, 2/4/11For the first time in Franchise history, the Columbus Blue Jackets shut out the Detroit Red Wings in Joe Louis Arena.

#3 – NYR @ CBJ, 12/11/10 – The New York Rangers came to town, after the Jackets had gone 1-3 in Saturday Night games early in the season, and Rick Nash took charge of the 3-1 comeback victory.

#2 – PHX @ CBJ, 2/25/11Matt Calvert moves up to the second line against the Coyotes and explodes for his first NHL hat trick in a 5-3 win.

#1 – STL @ CBJ, 11/10/10 – After the St. Louis Blues got into a “heated exchange” with R.J. Umberger before the game, they left the building with the roar of cannonfire and his declaration of “THIS IS OUR BUILDING!” in their ears after an 8-1 thrashing.

It’s not quite the same as getting to sit down in a nice cool rink with 18,000 of your best friends, but hopefully this will help a bit with the hockey withdrawl symptoms until we find ourselves closer to October.
