The Cannon Cast Episode 29: The Columbus Dispatch’s Brian Hedger joins us

Brian Hedger of the Columbus Dispatch joins a super-sized episode to talk Columbus Blue Jackets with us! Hedger makes his Cannon Cast debut from Traverse City, where he tells us what he’s looking for from the team’s prospects (we recorded this episode on Sunday, before the CBJ lost to Dallas on Monday). We also chat about his thoughts for the upcoming season, what it’s like to cover Torts and other thoughts from around the beat.

Hedger is going into his third season covering the Blue Jackets and second for the Columbus Dispatch. Prior to Columbus, he spent 16 years in the Chicago/Northwest Indiana area and wrote for multiple media outlets, including NHL.com, the Chicago Tribune, the Chicago Sun-Times, the Daily Herald, the Post-Tribune and the Times of Northwest Indiana. He also quit sportswriting once to write for the American Medical Association’s former trade publication, AMNews.

Follow Brian Hedger on Twitter at @BrianHedger. In this episode, we also talk about:

  • What are his impressions from the prospects in Traverse City?
  • Could Texier be an answer in the middle?
  • What are his storylines to watch this season?
  • What’s it like to cover Torts?
  • How did Artemi Panarin and Sergei Bobrovsky affect his daily work?
  • What are his favorite moments from interviews?
  • How big is the difference covering the Blackhawks compared to the Blue Jackets?/

…plus a lot more.
