Some Afternoon News from Nationwide

On a bit of a quiet afternoon, we’ve got a small barrage of announcements from the Blue Jackets as they continue to prepare for next season.

For local fans in Columbus, the biggest news is that the team will be holding a pre-season “FanFest” on Friday, September 9th that will feature food, drinks, floor hockey, music, and appearances from several players, including Rick Nash, Jeff Carter, and James Wisniewski. In addition, the team will be putting single game tickets on sale EXCLUSIVELY at Fan Fest that night before they go on sale to the public the following morning through Ticketmaster. Seems like a great idea to me – get the local fans out and help to pack the building.

The team has also announced that 2009 first round pick John Moore will be appearing in the 2011 NHLPA Rookie Showcase. Before anyone starts jumping, though, remember that this is more about taking pictures for trading cards than anything else. I’d still put Moore’s chances to make the team as “middling” at this point unless he can bang out a really impressive training camp. (For those wondering why Ryan Johansen wasn’t invited? Simple! He took part in last year’s event.)

Finally, in addition to single game tickets going on sale September 10th, that will also be the start of the Traverse City Prospect Tournament, which will run through the 14th. The team’s roster for the tournament was also announced today. Not surprisingly, Ryan Johansen, Boone Jenner, Cam Atkinson, David Savard, and John Moore all feature on the squad. It’ll also be interesting to see who might surprise us in the invites – remember that Oliver Gabriel (who will be on the squad as well) started his impressive run at last year’s training camp with a good showing in TC.
