Shrapnel – 9/20/11

With last night’s pre-season openers in the books, the NHL is officially back – and the Jackets will hit the ice to do their part tonight.

We’ll have a preview up for  the split squad games with Winnipeg later today – for now, here’s a few things to help tide you over.

Every Jackets fan breathed a collective sigh of relief at the news that Jeff Carter‘s injury on Sunday was just a bruise. For more details, check the Jackets Notebook article from today’s Dispatch.

An awesome series is starting up over at Fear the Fin, chronicling an in-depth interview with Sharks GM Doug Wilson.

Over at TMM, Jeff had some Monday Musings, including a good discussion on the risks vs. rewards of shot blocking.

With his brother Marc recovering from a concussion that he appears to have caused, Hurricanes captain Eric Staal is feeling a lot of regret.

Gallos wraps up his definitive history with some thoughts on a definitive perspective.

Former Jacket Jakub Voracek talks about his exit interview with Scott Arniel, and how it changed his entire offseason. (Hat tip to Lori Schmidt for the find!)

In addition to his notebook piece, Portzline also put up a few impressions from camp on Day 3.

The LA Kings may be waiting on Drew Doughty, but they’re quite confident in their goaltending.

The fans in Winnipeg are gearing up for a party.

Tapeleg looks at Puck Daddy’s Ryan Lambert, and about some good messages getting lost in translation. I have to admit, I love reading Wysh, Dmitri, and Harrison, but if I see Lambert’s byline I’ll skim, at best.

Jacket’s prospect and WHL d-man Austin Madaisky is one of the guys flying up to Manitoba for tonight’s game, and he’s excited about the experience. Here’s hoping he has a game to remember – he’s almost certainly one of the players likely to be returned to their junior teams tomorrow. (Stick tap to @CBJProspects)

For all the talk about the Jackets potentially rolling a third scoring line once the season gets started, it seems former CBJ coach Claude Noel is looking to do the same in Winnipeg.

Dannie has created another t-shirt. Speaking of which, keep an eye on our store – we’ll have some new designs appearing soon!

Last but not least – if you’re going to ask fans to vote on a new goal song, it might be good to avoid choices that opposing fans can vote on.
