Shrapnel – 9/18/11

For some, Yesterday was the bulk of their training camp experience. Life is busy, weekday practices can be difficult with work, and even for a die hard fan, sitting in a very, very cold rink for 4-5 hours can get tough.

But today is the owner’s tournament, and one of my favorite parts of the entire thing.

In case you forgot, here are the rosters. Remember that after a change in plans, goaltenders will no longer rotate between teams, and instead have been assigned.

Steve Mason will play for Team Wolfe, Mark Dekanich will play for Team Pizzuti, Curtis Sanford will play for Team McConnell, and Allen York will play for Team Crane.

Over at Icethetics, we’ve got some jersey leaks! Love that new Leafs sweater (speaking of Tim Horton’s playing days…) but the Ottawa “heritage” jersey actually looks pretty damn slick. I’m the furthest thing in the world from a Sens fan, and I’m mildly entertaining thoughts of buying one if I could get it for cheap.

The Dispatch has coverage of Day 1 on Puck-Rakers. Today’s paper also includes features on Jeff Carter getting a fresh start and Radek Martinek coping with recent events.

Up in Detroit, Pavel Datsyuk made a touching tribute to friend and former Red Wing Ruslan Salei.

We’ve got some nice sets of fan photos from yesterday at camp: Reddit/Imgur, Flickr, The View From 210.

Over at Crimespree Hockey, they’ve started a “Doughty Watch”, but suggest that his agent may be a big part of the problem. Meanwhile, Puck Daddy asks if Kings fans will forgive Drew Doughty for this holdout.

Over at Jackets Report, Rob is ready to go for this season.

I don’t care how many times I see it, this is just wrong. It’s like a photoshop nightmare come to life.

We’ve also got some Day 1 thoughts from View From The Cheap Seats.

A seminar on Concussions in Hockey was held yesterday, including pointing out that most concussions occur in the first period of games when the adrenaline is high and energy levels lead to more contact. Given that also describes a lot of training camp battles, especially early? Let’s all be careful out there.

Jeff over at TMM sees day 1 as the first step of assembling the pieces.

Potentially bad news for the FlamesJarome Iginla had to leave yesterday’s practice due to back spasms.

DBJ got a new-ish camera, and took it to the rink. Gorgeous!

I can’t help but love a Jackets’ blog calling itself “Eternal Optimist.” He’s got a nice look at training camp and anticipation.

Can Michael Del Zotto return to being an impact player for the Rangers after a Sophomore Slump?

Finally, check out Matini Hockey and stories from a chilly September morning.
