Shrapnel – 9/12/11

Good morning!

With the official Media Day this afternoon at Nationwide Arena, expect coverage of the Blue Jackets to officially hit high gear – and with some success and a little luck, we’ll see it keep at an exciting pitch until Summer.

We have another sad note after yesterday’s rememberances – Alexander Galimov, the only player to survive the Lokomotiv charter flight’s crash, has passed away. Reports indicate the surviving crew member, however, will survive.

Over at DBJ, Gallos continues his excellent history lessons with the Fall of the House of MacLean.

The LA Kings held their pre-season hockey fest, and though Drew Doughty didn’t make an appearance, his name frequently came up in conversation.

Over at Ten Minute Misconduct, Jeff has a look at the building momentum for this offseason.

Lexi Peters, a 14 year old hockey player from Buffalo, asked EA Sports why there were no female player options in their NHL games. Not only did EA respond, they made her part of the game. Kudos to EA, and well done to Lexi!

Jas Chaffin has another on the spot recap of the Jackets’ loss to the Buffalo Sabres at Traverse City last night. The team is off today, and will be back in action on Tuesday against the prospect squad from the Wild.

The Ottawa Citizen talks to former Jacket Gilbert Brule about trying to get his career back on track, and taking care of the little things.

The North Shore News talked to new CBJ netminder Mark Dekanich about making the leap to the pros, and about his wedding day fashion choices.

Another player looking to restart his hockey career is Bruins‘ prospect Zach McKelvie, who spent the last two years on active duty with the US Army. I can’t help but think of Jackets’ coach Dan Hinote when I read his story. One wonders what shared experiences and advice he might have for him.

Finally, Hockey Broad took a look at the Jackets, and her “30 in 30” preview features commentary from our own commenter Zekebud! Way to go, Zeke!
