Shrapnel – 8/16/11

As we wrote last night, we start the day continuing to deal with the shocking death of Rick Rypien. PHT has more information, as does Puck Daddy, and there is continuing coverage at Arctic Ice Hockey and Nucks Misconduct. I would expect NM to have more details on today’s public memorial at Rogers Arena later this afternoon.

More news after the jump.

On the Jackets side of things, the team is officially looking for a few good interns. But you might want to brush up on key material first.

The US National Development Team has named Don Granato as their new head coach.

I’m still in awe at the overwhelming positive reaction to Cannonfest. Though I hate to look like I’m tooting my own horn, the reactions have been wonderful to read and I hope you’ll enjoy taking a look at everyone’s work:

One Redditor’s project to turn NHL jerseys into Soccer kit, which we highlighted earlier last week, is now finished, and Puck Daddy has the complete gallery. Forgive me, but I thought the Panthers and Blackhawks concepts actually looked pretty snazzy.

Though he was out of town for Cannonfest, Andy over at CBJ Blog is pumped up (and put out a nice redesign!). Looking forward to seeing what he comes up next.

Could Trent Hunter make his way to Anaheim? PHT thinks he’d be a good fit.

The Jackets have announced the 2011-12 promotion team members, which includes the Power Patrol and the Cannon Crew. I’m noticing that of all the men who made the squad, only ONE wore a CBJ t-shirt? Full marks to “Sean S.” The rest? Feel shame. The Jackets also released video from the auditions process.

Adam Proteau has his guilty pleasures exposed…and you may remember a photograph of his appearance in Columbus from Game 3.

It looks like the Jacket Backers will have a “tickets only” option for their early season Nashville trip – LTL has more details.

Finally, it looks like the Jackets are working on spreading Skraut’s work online and potentially even showing his videos in Nationwide Arena! Fantastic news!
