Shrapnel – 8/12/11

Apparently it’s Daft Punk Friday. Who am I to argue with that?

We’ve got all kinds of interesting stuff to start your weekend, beginning with the official announcement that OSU hockey will play an outdoor game against Michigan at Jacobs Field on January 15th!

Over at OutKick the Coverage, they’re comparing the 3.4 million spent on Rick Reilly by ESPN to the budget friendly juggernaut that is Yahoo Sports bloggers (including everyone’s favorite, Puck Daddy).

For someone who is leaving soon, Tom Reed keeps banging out hits – his latest is a report on former Jackets coach Gary Agnew, who will be conducting an NHL prep camp at Chiller North in late August for current Jackets’ players and other NHLers to help them get up to game speed prior to training camp.

Did the bad behavior of a portion of Vancouver fans force Milan Lucic to curtail his Stanley Cup celebrations? If so, shame on them.

People keep asking: “What is Cannonfest?” Perhaps this will do a better job of explaining it.

The Buffalo Sabres have a new deal for Marc-Andre Gragnani. Now they just have to fit back under the salary cap. Before Columbus picked up Vinny Prospal, I’d have happily taken Brad Boyes off their hands. Now I’m wondering if they might look to deal with a team like Nashville or the Islanders who need to make sure they stay above the cap floor.

The next portion of Jeff Little’s Lifting the Shroud series goes behind the bench.

Crimespree Hockey is talking about favorite play by play announcers. Jeff Rimmer is not mentioned. I’m shocked.

PHT thinks that this season rests on Steve Mason‘s shoulders – and they have doubts.

Speaking of Puck Daddy, they’ve got a look at that Angry Birds mask that has been going around, and some other video game references on NHL masks.

The guys who may or may not eventually produce a podcast on The Cannon Report have put up another tumblog in the meantime about the frustrating wait for hockey.

Justin Bourne explains how to make better passes on the ice. Better passes at the bar after the game are your own responsibility.

Andrei Kostitsyn could be leaving Montreal after this season, and he’s making demands about how he wants to be used by head coach Jacques Martin. I’m sure this will end well.

Finally, another guilty pleasures from former HNIC (and current SportsNet) guy Jeff Marek. There’s a white rabbit. There’s some punchin’. Seems reasonable to me.
