Shrapnel – 7/25/11

Good morning! Hope you had a nice weekend.

Thanks to Puck-Rakers, we now know that Tyler Wright has been promoted to director of amateur scouting. Wright has said in the past that he’d like to become a GM in the future, and this seems like another stepping stone for that goal.

In the follow up coverage at the Dispatch, Portzline also talks about the remaining front office positions the Jackets are looking to fill, including Wright’s replacement as development coach.

Something interesting over at PHT that I hadn’t considered – since trading Eric Brewer last season, the Blues have been playing without a captain. They make a decent case for why David “Inglorious” Backes might be the ideal fit.

With the Jackets’ acquisitions “essentially” complete following the acquisition of Vinny Prospal, DBJ takes a look at the changes by the numbers. At the same time, Matt Reitz at PHT takes a look at the deal to give his thoughts on how useful Prospal may be as a “stopgap” measure for the Jackets.

Oil on Whyte takes a look at the strange saga of Gilbert Brule in Edmonton, and if his time there may be coming to an end.

Full Mental Jackets asks…do you know Skraut?

Blue Seat Blogs makes a case for The People Vs. The Hockey News.

Over on “The Twitters”, a gent by the name of @McSean3 put together a nice CBJ wallpaper featuring a few new faces.

Columbus is, we assume, pretty much done for the offseason, but it’s interesting to see who is left out there in free agency…just in case something else should happen. I know everyone expects that Teemu Selanne is going to be a Duck or retire this season…but would anyone else really love it if he came back for a “farewell” year in Winnipeg?

Have a good morning, and we’ll catch you later!
