Shrapnel – 7/11/11

Happy Monday!

We’ll keep this simple so you can grab a few links with the morning bagel on your way to work.

First up, after living through an incredibly traumatic experience, then what can only be called a suicide attempt, though he himself admits he doesn’t know what he was doing at the time, former Jackets’ goalie coach Clint Malarchuk finally got the help he needed. After securing a new job in Calgary as their goaltending coach, he speaks for a candid interview, hoping to make sure that those in need of help, as he was, will go seek it. It’s powerful stuff. We salute Clint for his courage, and wish him well.

A bit lighter fare? How about this neat Rick Nash signed ticket from the game where he scored his 100th NHL goal?

Though the Jackets have resolved their restricted free agents with the trade of Jake Voracek and the signings of Marc Methot and Nick Holden, other teams are still in the arbitration process, and there are some very interesting names on that list. Many – potentially all – will get new deals either before the hearing or through the process, but we could see some very talented players suddenly on one year contracts…

Over at Crimespree Hockey, a Penguins fan has gotten hooked on the Jackets, and talks a bit about why he’s looking forward to following them this year.

He wasn’t the only one to talk about the potential changes in the lineup yesterday – Rob at Jackets Report took some time to discuss possible lines and pairings, while PHT also talked about the new look Jackets and James Wisniewski.

At Puck Daddy, they point out why the NHLPA should be fighting for long term contracts in the next CBA.

Over at the view from 210, Mark takes some time to discuss someone we’re forgetting in all the recent moves, who  he thinks might have a big “bounce back” year, and Tram’s Table takes a look at free agency this year and finds much to object to…but he thinks Columbus made some good moves.

Have a good day, and we’ll talk more later.
