Shrapnel – 6/6/2011

I’m afraid it’s Monday again. We’ve tried to fix that, but we just can’t get enough top minds on this problem.

That said, at least we’ve got Game 3 to look forward to tonight in Boston, and we’ll see if the Bruins can fix their mistakes, or if the Canucks will start slowly putting the skate down.

In news closer to home, Scott Howson gave an interview to NHL.com that pretty much cements the idea that our first round pick is on the market, and that he’s looking for help right away. While many expect him to make a move for a defenseman, there are rumors that Columbus could be very interested in Jeff Carter. I really have doubts about the Flyers moving him, but if the chance is there…

In other “improve our team by any means necessary” discussions, Gallos has another scenario for trying to acquire the rights to Brad Richards before July 1st.

In news that will shock no one, the Ottawa Senators interviewed former Jackets’ assistant coach Bob Boughner for their head coaching vacancy. Don’t assume it’s a done deal, though – there is a lot of buzz about former Detroit assistant Paul MacLean being at the top of Bryan Murray’s list.

In “This is why the NHL doesn’t like to have big playoff games on Saturdays” news, ratings for game 2 dropped heavily in the US, though it did win the night in broadcast TV for adults 18-49.

Last of all (yeah, slow news day), how cool is it that Vancouver is re-igniting the Olympic torch tonight to show support for their team? It makes me wish we had giant flaming pillars in Columbus. And a playoff team. Ah, well.
